Another progress report...
I'm working in a different way with the new album. Previously when I have the beginnings of a track I decide what it sounds like, what it means, what it should express, a time, a place or feeling ect. Then each track is shaped into something that hopefully makes sense and placed in order on the album.
With 'The Safety Of The North' I wrote the story first, detailing the events that unfold and the characters. I have divided the story up into about 15 'scenes' and specifically written a track for each as if it were a movie soundtrack. This approach I hope is producing something I think has continuity and is focused but It's also a time cosuming challenge!
So, there will be about 15 tracks on the new album and 13 are finished or close to being finished. Very soon I'll be recording vocals for one track and cello for another two thanks to the contribution of some nice people. I'm aiming to be finished in August sometime, usually there's not too long to wait after that for it to be released.
enjoy the sun :)

February 27th
Apologies for the lack of recent updates with this being the first of the year. Things have been very busy in recent months with the third album taking shape.
I'm working with singers, spoken work and other musicians so it's a more complicated process than the previous albums.
70% of the album is done with most tracks under way and some complete.
As with 'Sea' there is a story to the album about a young girl called Alice and her family, the album will be called 'The Safety Of The North' It will be finished by the summer.
August 29th
I'm pleased to say that the new album 'these places are now ruins' is confirmed for release on october 9th. There are more details at n5MD along with clips of all the tracks.

April 9th
Ok, over 2 months without an update isn't great but there's little info to share. At the last count i had 49 minutes of new music worth hearing, most of it is finished and a couple of tracks are still in demo form. At this time i would predict that it will be complete by the end of June at the latest but I'm aiming for the end of May. Artwork is being produced as I type.
In about 4 weeks, or when i'm clearer about the final tracklisting I'll put 1 or 2 new tracks up on the last days myspace.
One of the new tracks called 'Points Bridge' will appear on a forthcoming compilation, more about that when I get the go ahead to talk about it!
On the last days myspace blog and the n5MD website is a transcription of the feature that was in Foggy Notions magazine.

january 20th
A couple of people have asked about record #2, so i though i'd fill in anyone who's interested. It's only been 5 months since 'sea' was released but about 8 since it was completed, so yes i've been working on new stuff and have track titles and the album title finalised.
I have about half an album done which is pretty much the same stage as i was at this time last year. So far it's sounding slightly louder than 'sea' but i realise that's not too difficult. I'm hoping it'll be out this year.
